A New System

I am one-hundred percent a PC guy. I'm not a Mac fan, for a couple reasons. One, I don't like iPhoto, and two I love folders. Folders in folders in folders. So sorting my photos becomes a bit of a trick. I have some places where I get about 20 folders deep. And I know what all of them are and why they are all sorted where they all. It makes sorting photos a hard and time-consuming task. But certainly worth it. With the new year, I actually changed systems entirely. I started sorting by year first, and then by event/subject/etc. With this new system comes a new folder I call Aesthetics which is simply photos that I enjoy the look of. Here are two examples of this folder

The Price of Digital Art

I just read an article sent to me that talks about some issues I've been about a lot. The article is right here: Hey look, it's an article.
It basically talks about how easy it is for photos in a digital world to be 'borrowed', without permission. And how while it may not seem like it, digital photography is an expensive business and just taking photos online is super-unethical.
As to how this relates to my blog, it's inspired me to make a statement. If you like a photo of mine, and you would like to use it for something, let me know. Just ask, I will most probably say yes. After all, I like having my photos out there and if you're going to enjoy it, all the better. But it was not free to make, and it was not easy to make. I appreciate your consideration.

Four

This past New Years I made several resolutions for 2012. One of the premier of those being a Photo 365 project. This means that I make one photograph every day to do with a specific theme, my projects theme being Four. The number, the lettering, the geometry, etc. As long as Four is represented in a reasonably understandable form, then it qualifies as my photo of the day. I'll be creating a new tab on my homepage (right beside But what is an Archipelago?) where I'll do my best to keep up to date with my quadrishenanigans. For now, here are 1 and 2 of the series.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It!

So this is the video I was talking about the other day. Enjoy.

Serve Yourself

This was the first project like this that I have done on photoshop and man was it fun. If you are wondering how it was done, I had two photos merged into one on photoshop where the subject (a friend of mine, Sachi) was in different positions for each. The reason for it was a school project wherein we matched lines of the song It's The End Of The World As We Know It to photos or short video clips. This photo was for the line "Serve yourself". I will be posting the whole video on YouTube and then here soon enough.

A Return

Alright everyone, I know it's been a while. I took a long break from blogging for the past month or two to get caught up on school because, while I love to do it, blogging takes time; time I no longer had. I've moved around some priorities, got my life in order, blah blah blah. Long story short, Archipelago is back. And with such a large amount of photographic stories to get caught up on, we're going to be barraging you with a slew of new posts, so keep your eyes open.

By The Light Of The Moon

The other night I was in Grand Bend and had some spare time. My family was watching a Rom-Com and I thought I'd go outside and try some lunar photography. To be honest, photographing the moon is a lot harder than I had thought it would be, and even after working for so long and trying a few different tactics, I still didn't end up with an image to be proud of. these two aren't awful, but they certainly aren't art either. I was using a tripod (of course) and using shutter speeds of up to 30 seconds. Even with all that time, there still wasn't enough light to satisfy my original photographic ideas. What I did end up with were a few creepy, dark photos.
