Phi

I've got another puzzle for you. What is similar, technically, about these photos?
Stumped?
Here you go; They both have the same aspect ratio (The relationship between the width and height of the frame eg. 4x6, 16x9, etc). The aspect ration for these is (1 x 0.618). I'm going to assume that you are wondering the exact same thing that I was when I was taught this the other day at The London Camera Club: Why such a random number? The answer is simple, it's not random. There is a mathematical belief that a great deal of organic life is based on a single ratio, known as Phi, humans included. (Click here for an example) This ratio is vital to much of the organic life on earth. So, why not apply that to photography? The frame of these photos are '1' long and '0.618' tall. Studies have shown that about 70% of people (photographers included) enjoy photos with Phi as the aspect ratio over the classic 4 x 6. I thought this was pretty interesting, hope you agree.

Movement to Music

My school, S.C.I., just finshed their annual Dance Show, and my little sister, was in it! The show was fantastic, with choreography and costuming through the roof. The final show was just sensational, and gave me the opportunity to practice my dance photography. Click here to view all the photos.
